Cons

Battlefield Vietnam is a first person shooter that places players in the role of soldiers during the Vietnam War. This was the first direct sequel to Battlefield 1942, and the second full entry in the Battlefield series.

This is a game that flew under the radar when it was released, and that's a shame. Coming hot off the heels of Battlefield 1942, Battlefield Vietnam helped to codified what would become a formula in the genre. The game looked great at the time, and the soundtrack was amazing. The game went as far as it could to replicate the feel of battles in Vietnam, with an asymmetric style of multiplayer that really hasn't been replicated in the series as a whole. All in all, this was a fantastic game.

The problem, though, is that was is an operative word. There's no longer any kind of official multiplayer support for Battlefield Vietnam, so your chances to play against human competitors is very limited. Coupled with graphics that look dated at best, and you're really looking at more of a time capsule than a real game at this point. It used to be so much more than it is today, and that's a real shame.

Should you download Battlefield Vietnam? Yes, if only to take a look at one of gaming's unsung heroes. It's a great game, but it's a shame that experiencing it in all of its glory is borderline impossible now. If you can find some friends who are willing to jump through some hoops to play with you, though, you'll have a great time experiencing a fantastic, if somewhat dated, style of play.
